It isn’t really clear cut. I read the articles on the “Crypto Blog Sites” and one thing is clear… news and manufactured stories are both being peddled to the public. These sites are creating stories that blockchain technologists should already be aware of, in order to maintain public “awareness” of blockchain developments.
Not all of these stories are beneficial to “Crypto” development or implementation of the technology. Some give the false impression that the technology is more widespread in its implementation than it actually is. Some stories also give the false impression that new implementations will likely replace the cryptocurrencies already in use.
Keep in mind that cryptocurrency and distributed ledger technology are 2 separate implementations of the crypto technology, and under the hood are quite different in their usage and implementation. Cryptocurrencies are public and permission-less, and distributed ledgers are private and permission-ed.
The motivation behind many of the articles being published on these sites is clear. Revenue and self-promotion. The publishers are generating revenue for their sites, and the writers are generating publicity and recognition for their own brands. The reality of these news sites is that the goal isn’t to credibly and honestly report on the developments in blockchain technology, but to put coins in the pockets of the site owners and the writers.
In order to discover what cryptocurrency and distributed ledger technology really is about, don’t put your knowledge in the hands of the reporters, please be careful and do some research on the technology. My recommendation is to find the organization website for the technology you are interested in and learn the tech from the developers not the “reporters”.
